Double Joy by M'sian Youths @ S'pore Open

Hi Guys,
It's a double joy for our young Malaysians !.

After capturing the Youth Open titles at Malaysian International Open Championships 2011 at Sunway Mega Lanes last week, our young Malaysians continued the momentum to stamp their supremacy in wresting another identical victory in the Youth divisions.

Our Malaysian youths completed a clean sweep of the Youth Open Masters titles of the 44th Singapore International Open with Aris Ardilla and Chong Jun Foo finishing one-two in the boy's division; while Syaidatul Afifah, Faten Najihah, Fatin Azmira and Steffira Zeandea rocket up the top four podium finish in the girl's division.

2010 Asian Youth gold medalist, Aris Ardilla set a cracking pace to take an early lead with his sizzling opening game of 253 but soon found himself trailing Aussie Sam Cooley after the second game.

Singapore's Jovi Ang made his bid by taking over the running after the third game but could not keep up the pace set by Aris after the Malaysian regained the lead at the halfway mark. Despite losing the lead briefly to team-mate, Chong Jun Foo after the fifth game, a re-vitalized Aris went on to end the 8-game finals with 1709 to capture the title.

Chong made a late charge in his final game but finished 19 pins behind the champion with 1690 while Cooley took third spot with 1671, a further 19 pins away.

Singapore's Jonathan Ang stormed home to snatch fourth spot with 1609 to edge early pace-setter, Jovi into fifth position with 1597.

Other Malaysian youths, Johnathan Chan (8th), Khoo Beng Khai (10th), Ahmad Muaz (13th), Muhd Syafiq Sajeli (14th) and Syimir Abd Razak (15th).

The Malaysian girls were much more superior than their boys counterpart sweeping the finals with the top four places. Syaidatul Afifah took a convincing victory to win her second international youth title after her triumph in Taiwan and Penang last year.

Syaidatul, who took over the lead after the third game, amassed a total of 1604, 49 pins ahead of Faten Najihah in second with 1555. Early pace-setter and pint-sized, Fatin Azmira settled for third with 1545 while Steffira Zeandea completed the top 4 for Malaysia with 1513.

Singapore's best finisher was Girl's Under-18 first runner-up, Tracy See in fifth position with 1485. Tengku Emanina Laily (6th), Puteri Nadia (8th), Natasha Roslan (9th) and Radin Nur Najwa (12th) were the other Malaysian finalists.

Aris Ardilla won S$1,000 for his effort, Chong and Cooley taking home S$600 and S$400 while Syaidatul, Faten, Fatin and Steffira all won S$800, S$600, S$300 and S$200 respectively.

It's curtain down for our young Team Malaysia Girls' campaign in the World Youth Championships 2010 at Helsinki, Finland today.

In the Semi-Finals of the Team event, our young bowlers came off the block with impressive score-lines as both Siti Safiyah and Sin Li Jane reeled turkey strikes while Fatin Syazliana registered a double strike and Jacqueline Sijore kept a clean sheet at half way mark. At this stage, Team Malaysia held a slight advantage lead over arch-rivals, Team Singapore.

A more experienced Team Singapore started to gain momentum and inched closer as they game progressed. It was a ding dong battle as both sides traded strike for strike till the 8th frame when Team Singapore exerted their energy to storm home with a 860 - 769 victory margin. Team Malaysia's Siti Safiyah contributed 197, Fatin Syazliana 184, Jaqueline Sijore 172, and anchor lady Sin Li Jane 216 in the one game Semi-Final match. Korea , the top seed, defeated England in the other Semi Final with 816 vs 756, and took the Gold medal after disposing challenger Singapore in the Team Final.

“ Our Girls bowled their best, but were not strong enough to match the in-form Singaporeans.” said Team Manager after the Semi-Final.”

Later in the afternoon, Sin Li Jane, the only Malaysian in the top 16 Masters Final was engaged in an epic battle with 11th seed Tannya Roumimper of Indonesia. Seeded 6th, Li Jane chose to start with the "Short Oil" pattern in the "Best of 5 games" knock-out duel. Li Jane lost the first game 200-211; levelled the score-line with a 215-202 in the "Long Oil" pattern second game. Tannya regained the lead with a 233-202 in 3rd game and Li Jane forced the match into the decider with a well fought 247-210 4th game. In the decider, both bowlers displayed their true grit and fighting spirits, trading punch for punch till the game went down to the wire. After a double strike in 8th & 9th frames, Li Jane needed another strike to consolidate her position. Much to her dismay, her solid 1-3 pocket delivery saw the stubborn 10 pin stood unscatched. Tannya got the lady luck when pins action assisted her to strike home and wrapped up the game 225-213 to earn a hard fought 3-2 victory margin.

Jane was the most consistent female bowler in the Malaysian Team with 1288 in the Singles, 1176 in the Doubles and 1336 in the Team. She finished 6th in the All-Events and was the only Malaysian to make the Masters' Finals in Helsinki. Korea’s Moon-Jeong Kim won the All-Events Gold medal with a total 3922 , just 17 pins ahead of 2nd placed Hayley White from England while Diana Zavjalove of Latvia clinched the Bronze medal with 3899.

WYC 2010 - Cheers for Team Malaysia Girls

Hi Guys,

Defying the odds, our young Malaysian girls caught the audience attention when our team stormed home in the last game to pip arch-rivals and favorites to take the pole position.

Bowling the Team of Four (1st block) event, our young Malaysian girls produced a commendable performance. Starting the first game on Lane 28, Team Malaysia cruised towards a clean game path till the 8th frame when lead role, Siti Safiyah encountered a 8 split opened frame. However, Siti managed to steer home with 202 game, Fatin Syazliana strike-out for a 221 game, Jacqueline Sijore responded with 206 game while anchor-lady, Sin Li Jane suffered a last frame split to end on 196 game for a inspiring 825 total to place 6th.

Our girls team continued their momentum in their second game as each bowler was repeating their shots. A turbulence in the 8th frame resulted in opened frame for all our girls. Siti lost her focus to end her game on 184; Fatin missed a single pin spare to finish on 167; Jacqueline bowled 192 game whilst Li Jane carried the team on her shoulder with 7 consecutive strikes to end on 239 game. Our team's score of 782 and combined total of 1607 managed to hang on 5th position.

In the 3rd game, Siti Sifiyah was all fired up, reeling 3 consecutive strikes, followed by a spare and another 4 consecutive strikes for a remarkable 246 game. Fatin recovered from her blues to storm home for a 217 game; Jacqueline suffered a hiccup to end on 171 game. Sin Li Jane was instrumental as anchor lady as she blazed the lanes with another creditable game of 227 to escalate our team's total to 861 pinfalls. In this tight race, Jane's last frame strike out propelled Team Malaysia to leap-frog over the favorites and took the pole position in this 1st block of 3 games.

An elated anchor-lady, Li Jane was hugged by team-mates, without realising that our team has took over the lead. "I just stayed focussed and repeat the shots on my game; thanks to the good guidance from my coaches, Foong & Azidi and motivational support provided by our psychologist, Peck Ngor' said Li Jane.           The vocal support from our Embassy staff as well as the presence of our H.E. Ambassador watching from behind and cheering our team paid dividends.

The Team Boys' event shall commence at 1:00pm later today.

Beng Khai started off with lines of 206, 226, 185, 228, 223 before succumb to a poor 167 last game. Hence his chance was vaporised as he ended on 14th position.

Debutant Yusuf Abdul Raof could not sustained his momentum to the distance after a promising start. Yusuf bowled the lines of 198, 243, 179, 162, 183, & 165 for a 1130 total to end on 28th position.

In squad 2, Aris Ardilla and Syimir Abdul Razak encountered similiar situation. Aris reeled the lines of 195, 181, 212, 213, 216 & 203 for a 1220 total.

Meanwhile, Syimir become the first bowler to achieve the magical 300 game in his 6th game. However, the feat was not good enough to haul up his position standing. Syimir produced a sub-par performance with lines of 156, 202, 203, 185, 170 & 300 for a 1216 total.

WYC 2010 - Results Singles Girls

Hi Guys,

It was a case of so close yet so far for our young Malaysian's pursuit for a place in the Semi-Finals of the Singles Girls event today.

Determined to strive for excellence and glory for our country, Sin Li Jane was disappointed not to make the cut for the Semi-Finals.

A modest start on 182 game, Li Jane paced herself well with lines of 215, 213, 202, 248 to come within distance for a medal-shoot position. Li Jane was on track in her last game till the 9th frame when a stubborn 8 pin stood and she ended her game with 228; hence was 32 pins short for a top 4 finish. Jane emerged as the best Malaysian in 6th position with 1288 series. A disappointed Li Jane commented "I vowed to come back stronger in my next event. My first game cost me a medal for our country".

Debutant Jacqueline Sijore had a dream start with 238 game but could not held on the momentum, reeling subsequent lines of 182, 187, 180, 199 & 233 for a 1219 total to finish on 22nd place (1219) while Siti Safiyah emerged on 31st place (1204) and Fatin Syazliana ended on 37th place (1188)
