4th Commonwealth Youth Games, Isle of Man, UK, 7-13 September 2011

Wednesday 7th September 2011

The Malaysian contingent of 18 athletes and 8 officials arrived safely on
Isle of Man after a long 22 hours journey through Abu Dhabi and
Manchester. Team Malaysia will be housed at Rutland Hotel for the whole
duration of the CYG together Team Canada who will be arriving later
Monday.

Team Malaysia left KLIA at 2040, flying for 7 hours by Etihad Airways with
a transit stopover of 3 hours at Abu Dhabi before flying another 7 hours
on to Terminal 1 Manchester Airport, where the team transferred to
Terminal 3 to fly to Isle of Man by the budget airline, Flybe Airways. The
flight from Manchester to Ronaldsway Airport, Isle of Man took only 35
minutes.

Team Malaysia was met by the Team Liaison Officer (TLO) Ms Lay See Perks,
who was born in Penang, Malaysia. She has settled down in Isle of Man and
now works for the Manx Museum. Tosha the Games mascot was also at the
airport to welcome all athletes, officials and guests to Isle of Man

The transfer from the airport, which is situated on the south-western part
of the island to the hotel in capital city of Douglas took about 30
minutes along a scenic road.

All the teams are free except badminton who has requested a training
session on the competition courts from 18:00 – 19:00. All athletes and
officials will have their lunch at the Catering Marquee at the National
Sports Centre and dinner at Palace Hotel Central Promenade. Breakfast will
be at Rutland Hotel
A short meeting with all athletes and officials was conducted by Mr
Rosmanizam Abdullah. The team doctor, Dr. Jasmiza reported that all
athletes are in the best of health except for some who still trying to
overcome jet-lag
The 8th of September will be a day for technical meetings for all sports
and also training sessions before the start of competition on the 9th
September.

Schedule of meetings are:

a) Team Leader Meeting – at 07:00 at Broadway Cinema
b) Doctor (Medical Briefing)– 08:30 at Broadway Cinema
c) Athletics – 12:00 (National Sports Centre – Squash Centre)
d) Badminton –– 10:00 (National Sports Centre Meeting Facility (squash
court area)
e) Cycling
i) Registration for competitors – 10:00-11:30 at CYG Games Office , Villa
Marina Arcade
ii) Team Manger’s Meeting – 15:15 – Villa Marina Broadway Cinema

f) Swimming – 14:00 - (National Sports Centre Meeting Facility (Squash
court area)
Team Malaysia’s training schedules are:
- Athletics - Free training
- Badminton- 11:30:12:30 at Competition Hall
- Cycling – Free training
- Swimming – 11:30-13:00

The Opening Ceremony will held at the Isle of Man Stadium from 7:15 pm
to 8:30 pm.

The competition for the 4 sports Malaysai are competing in will start on
Friday 9th September 2011
