Malaysian youths second best

15th October, Jakarta: Malaysian youths were second best when four of them finished second to fifth positions to Hong Kong's Michael Mak in the Boy's Under-21 finals of the 2nd Ancol Open while Hurul Ainul took third spot in the Girl's division.

Malaysia's Syimir Abdul Razak set the opening pace with a superb 223 to lead Singapore's Ng Chiew Pang by just 1 pin with Mohd Haziq Sahli third a further 7 pins away as Muhd Amirrul Afif and Khoo Beng Khai kept close company.

But three sizzling games of 279, 211 and 274 from Michael Mak put the Hong Kong 15-year-old wonder kid way in front to lead Aris Ardilla by 92 pins while Syimir dropped to third. Despite Syimir re-taking over second spot, Mak was simply too good for the Malaysians as he romp home a comfortable victory with 2347.

Four Malaysian youths took up second to fifth positions with Aris Ardilla finished second with 2218 and early pace-setter, Syimir Abdul Razak third with 2138. Khoo Beng Khai and Muhd Amirrul Afif posted 2050 and 2049 for fourth and fifth positions.

Other Malaysian youths, Mohd Haziq Sahli, Adrian Charles Dragon and Tengku Muhd Yasser could only manage 10th to 12th positions respectively.

Meanwhile, Hurul Ainul had a great start in the Girl's Under-21 finals when she lead for the first five games with Macau Open youth champion, Tannya Roumimper of Indonesia in second, 41 pins adrift.

But two poor games of 162 and 182 dropped her to second as newly-crowned Women's Grade A Masters champion, Clara Lau of Singapore shot to the front. Two massive games of 244 and 245 in the seventh and ninth gave the Singaporean a lead of 102 pins with the recovering Hurul.

Lau cruised to another convincing victory with 2050 with Indonesia's Jessica Florencio storming home with 257 and 212 to snatch second spot with 1976. Hurul hung on to third spot with 1971.
